"Supervision is not about expertly navigating every challenge, but about courageously facing them, for it is in the crucible of uncertainty that true competence is forged."

Supervisory Education, Experience & Approach

I completed a 22-hr supervision certificate program in 2018 through the NASW. Although successful completion of the Program indicates mastery of the subject matter, it is not a requirement to perform clinical supervision in Georgia, and the Program is not mandated by the Licensing Board. I’ve also attended a training on “Culture and Diversity Considerations in Supervision” (2022).

I have provided individual and group supervision to master’s level clinical interns and master’s level therapists seeking licensure since 2016 in outpatient settings.  I continue to consult with other certified clinical supervisors on a regular basis. I adhere to the rules and policies of the Georgia Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapists.  I practice and supervise in compliance with the NASW code of ethics.

As a supervisor I utilize a reflective supervision approach with supervisees. The goal is to create an environment in which people do their best thinking—one characterized by safety, calmness, and support. Together, we will explore the range of emotions (positive and negative) related to the families and issues the supervisee is managing. As a team, they work to understand and identify appropriate next steps. Reflective supervision is not therapy. It is focused on experiences, thoughts, and feelings directly connected with the work.

I also utilize the Ronnestad and Skovholt (2003) development model, which requires continuous reflection. Much like the client-counselor relationship’s strong influence on treatment outcomes, research findings support “a close and reciprocal relationship between how counselors/therapists handle challenges and difficulties in the client relationship and experiences of professional growth or stagnation” (p. 40).

Based on my education, training, and experience as both a clinician and a supervisor, I believe I am competent to supervise counselors working with adolescent and adult clients presenting with complex and acute trauma, mood disorders, adjustment disorders. Behavioral issues and family issues.
